Animated Atlas: Expansion West and the Mexican War. Geography and history are fused in this presentation of the expansion west, with the focus on the American southwest. A brief history of Latin American and Mexico introduces the Texas Revolution of the 1830's. The subsequent war with Mexico in 1846-48 is shown in detail. The causes of the war, embedded in geography, and the overall action of the war, which covered a large geographic area in the American southwest and Mexico, are illustrated using map animation. This is an exciting and relatively unknown part of American history which should be seen by all students in order to better understand the Hispanic heritage of the southwest of the United States.
